The Hospital
The Royal Children's Hospital's (RCH) is a key member of the Melbourne Children's Campus, partnering with Murdoch Children's Research Institute, The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics, and The Royal Children's Hospital Foundation. With a history of over 150 years, RCH provides comprehensive paediatric and adolescent health services, including tertiary and quaternary care for the critically ill across Victoria, Tasmania, southern NSW, and beyond. Paediatric training
The Victorian Basic Paediatric Training Consortium (VBPTC) manages basic paediatric training across several sites, providing trainees with diverse clinical exposure. To become a Basic Paediatric Trainee (BPT) with the RACP, trainees must secure an accredited position, coordinated through the VBPTC during the JRMO year.

The positions
Applications are open for 2026 JRMO positions, with options in the Metropolitan Stream (MS), Extended Rural Stream (ERS), and prevocational/unaccredited stream. All are full-time for 12 months starting February 2, 2026. The Metropolitan Stream is mainly in Melbourne, with some regional rotations. The ERS offers 18 months in rural Victoria, ideal for those interested in regional paediatrics. The unaccredited stream suits those seeking paediatric experience outside formal training, not counting towards RACP accreditation. All streams require eligibility, including completion of intern year and Australian medical registration by February 2026.

Application process
The application involves three parts: reference nominations, an online application, and submission via the RCH Careers Portal with a CV. Details are available on the RCH website.

Additional requirements
Applicants must provide a current National Criminal Record Check, a valid Working with Children Check, and comply with immunisation policies.

Why work at RCH?
RCH offers a supportive, inclusive environment with world-class facilities, staff benefits, and a focus on staff wellbeing. The hospital encourages applications from diverse backgrounds and mandates COVID-19 and other disease vaccinations unless medically exempted.
