Legal Accounts Officer We are looking for a hands-on legal accounts professional who genuinely understands how a law firm runs behind the scenes. This is a full-time role for someone with 2–3 years’ law firm experience who can step confidently into legal trust accounting, billing, receipting and matter support from day one. End-to-end legal accounts scope across trust and office Work that draws on both compliance knowledge and practical judgement Exposure to property and commercial, wills and estates, family law, commercial litigation and estate litigation Established systems and legal practice management processes A stable full-time opportunity with a visible role in the business About the role! You will manage the day-to-day legal accounts function across trust accounting, billing, receipting and debtor follow-up, while helping lawyers and staff keep matters moving smoothly. Daily trust account bank reconciliations Understanding and applying trust account regulations around receipting and transactions Receipting funds correctly to matters and issuing receipts to clients or relevant parties Assisting lawyers with trust account and matter-related queries Processing daily client billings from prior day transactions Managing both fixed fee and hourly rate invoices Following the flow of funds from trust to general account Processing client receipts to the general account for invoice payments Handling daily EFTPOS payments in person and over the phone across trust and general Preparing trust EFT payments for settlements, estate distributions and supplier invoices for senior co-authorisation in CommBiz Monitoring the shared accounts inbox and responding to ad hoc lawyer and staff queries Reviewing weekly trust-to-office transfer reports and identifying invoices that can be paid from trust Producing updated trust account statements after transfers and sending them to the correct party Working with lawyers and paralegals to prepare bills from draft to final stage Managing aged debtors and overdue invoice follow-up across the billing cycle What you'll bring! You will have the technical grounding and law firm instinct this role needs. Just as importantly, you will be someone who is responsive, careful and comfortable working with different personalities and practice areas. 2–3 years’ actual legal accounts experience in a law firm Strong understanding of law society trust account regulations Solid experience with legal billing procedures and trust to office processes Familiarity with legal matter terminology and the lifecycle of a legal matter Experience using LEAP, ideally in a day-to-day operational setting Ability to distinguish between fixed fee billing and hourly rate billing, including time entry schedules and billable versus non-billable items Confidence supporting multiple departments and handling competing priorities Strong attention to detail, sound judgement and clear communication Availability to work full-time Contact Details: Ready to be part of a firm where you can lead, grow, and make an impact?
