The Officer, Payables Finance role is a key centralised position within Deakin Residential Services (DRS), and primary focus of this role is to manage and enhance the supplier invoicing and payables processes across DRS. This includes ensuring efficient and compliant financial operations, mitigating risks, and providing streamlined support to enable operational teams to focus on delivering an exceptional on-campus residential experience for students. As part of a collaborative finance team, the Officer, Payables Finance plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant processing of payables while maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
**As an Officer, Payables Finance, you will**:
- Accurately process, monitor, and reconcile supplier invoices across DRS to ensure timely payment while adhering to established financial policies and procedures.
- Manage all payables functions for DRS, including tracking outstanding accounts, investigating discrepancies, and ensuring resolution in collaboration with the finance team and relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, policies, and procedures while implementing processes to minimise financial risks and maintain accurate financial records.
- Identify, recommend, and implement improvements to the invoicing and payables processes to enhance operational efficiency and ensure best practice financial management.
- Maintain strong and positive relationships with suppliers, ensuring clear communication and prompt resolution of payment queries or disputes.
**To be successful, you'll have**:
- A degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (no experience required); an associate diploma with at least two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in accounting and finance.
- Demonstrated understanding of accounts payable processes, supplier invoicing, and reconciliation procedures, with a strong focus on accuracy and efficiency.
- Proven ability to maintain a high level of attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in financial transactions, reconciliations, and compliance reporting.
- Understanding of financial compliance requirements, regulations, and best practices, with a proactive approach to maintaining integrity in financial processes.
- Knowledge of financial systems, enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms (e.g., Unify, SAP, Oracle, or similar), and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
