Electronics/Mechatronics Design Engineer (Graduate or Experienced)

Currawong Engineering is a leading aerospace design and manufacturing company
Currawong manufactures fuel injected engines, electronic motor controllers and other accessories used for premium uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs)
Currawong also provides specialist engineering consulting services, relating to UAVs and engines more broadly
Currawong has an in-house electronics production facility to assist with the quick turnaround of products and prototypes
The factory has a well-equipped workshop with a range of CNC machine tools including a 5-axis milling machine.
In-house engine test cells assist engineers and technicians with product development and acceptance testing
Currawong is based 15 minutes south of Hobart in a modern facility and has customers all over the world including the US, Japan, Italy and Singapore
Currawong has been operating in Hobart since 2005, and has developed excellent relationships with its many long-term customers.
The successful candidate could be an experienced engineer (cross disciplinary experience would be an advantage) or a recent graduate (with demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and excellent academic results).
Key Responsibilities
* Design and prototype novel electronic components
* Systems integration of complex electronic / mechanical systems
* Validate and commission complex electronic and mechanical systems
* Software development across a range of platforms
* Perform final assembly and testing
* Create and update a wide range of technical documentation
* Troubleshooting and problem solving across a range of engineering disciplines
Qualifications/Skills
* Engineering degree (Electronics or Mechatronics) or equivalent
* Knowledge of version control systems (git)
* Experience with embedded systems and electronics design
* Schematic capture and PCB layout (KiCad preferred)
* Excellent attention to detail (Currawong stands behind its products and quality in design and manufacture is paramount)
* Strong commitment to documentation
* Ability to work co-operatively within a team environment
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at once
* Baseline security screening may be required (via the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency).
Currawong has 20 FTE employees and it aims to provide a challenging, rewarding and flexible work environment. The standard working week is 38 hours, with a flex time system whereby any extra hours worked in a week can be accrued and taken off at a later date. It provides complimentary refreshments (such as tea and espresso coffee) and regular staff morning teas.
