Job Description
You'll step into a pivotal role at the heart of our Finance Services team, supporting the City's rates and receivables operations. As a Rates & Receivables Officer, you'll be the go‐to person for maintaining accurate property and rates records, processing accounts, and delivering exceptional service to our community while confidently managing a high volume of transactional enquiries. You'll work closely with a supportive team and collaborate across departments, ensuring the City's financial processes run smoothly and efficiently. * Managing rates, receivables and property administration, including valuations, interim rating, ownership changes, concessions, rebates, and pensioner applications.
* Raising accounts and processing payments, refunds, credits, direct debits and credit card transactions.
* Managing debtor accounts, debt recovery processes, settlement enquiries and legal recovery process through Magistrates Court.
* Administering waste management services, including commercial and on‐demand waste, bins, bulk runs and associated billing.
* Managing underground power accounts, instalment notices, interim ratings and annual charges.
* Maintaining high level of accuracy in data entry, record maintenance, data integrity checks and system‐based processing, including use of external customer portals.
* Working collaboratively within a team, providing back‐up support to other officers and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
* Providing responsive, professional customer service by managing and resolving a high volume of enquiries, balancing competing priorities and ensuring service requests are completed within agreed timeframes.
Qualifications
* Year 12 qualification (essential)
* Experience in a computerised work environment
* Experience using Technology One
* Strong understanding of debt recovery processes and legal recovery
* Comfortable working in sensitive environments with a customer‐first approach
* Well‐developed problem‐solving skills and the ability to navigate competing demand
* Strong MS Office skills, especially Excel
* Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with ratepayers and stakeholders.
* High level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity
* Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and confidently
* Strong problem‐solving skills and sound judgement
* Accurately interpret customer needs through active listening
* Demonstrated ability to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance customer service outcomes and operational efficiency within Council systems.
* Ability to extract and analyse data
* Sound clerical background with financial concepts
* Sound knowledge of relevant legislation and statutory requirements, with the ability to interpret and apply regulatory provisions
