The Team:

Public Health Services is a division of the Tasmanian Department of Health with the mission to empower Tasmanians to protect and improve the health of Tasmanians. The Tobacco Control Unit administers the licencing framework for smoking product retailers in Tasmania and regulates the sale or supply of smoking products in Tasmania.

The Role:

* Implement tobacco control compliance activity, including maintaining relationships with retailers, controlled purchase operations, assessing and issuing licences and compliance investigations.
* Prepare appropriate correspondence, infringement notices, prosecution briefs, create accurate records and provide operational recommendations in a client focused service.

You will need to:

* Enforce relevant sections of the Public Health Act 1997 and Poisons Act 1971 within operational procedures and Departmental policies.
* As a Nominated Officer under the Public Health Act 1997, carry out a range of compliance activities to regulate smoking products use, advertising displays and sales, including tobacco and e-cigarettes.
* Consult, provide advice, and educate retailers, local councils, organisers of public events, occupiers of smoke free areas and other Nominated Officers under Part 4 of the Public Health Act 1997 .

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $81,915 to $94,263 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

* Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
