The Service

The Obstetrics and Gynaecology department at Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) is a high-acuity, multidisciplinary unit delivering specialist care to women across the Northern Territory.

The department offers a wide range of services including generalist obstetrics and gynaecology, maternal foetal medicine, gynaecological oncology, colposcopy, urogynaecology, reproductive health, and a hospital-supported homebirth program.

We work closely with Charles Darwin University and Menzies School of Health Research, providing teaching and research opportunities, and support collaborations with Pacific Island nations for those interested in global health.

The Role

As the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Registrar, you will support the Obstetrics and Gynaecology departments to provide high-quality care. You'll broaden your clinical experience in both obstetrics and gynaecology and gain hands-on experience in birth suite management, elective caesarean section lists, early pregnancy scanning and antenatal and gynaecological clinics.

Key Duties

1. Deliver inpatient and outpatient care across antenatal, postnatal, and gynaecological services, including reproductive health and labour ward.
2. Provide perioperative and operative care including follow up for specialist gynaecological patients
3. Participate in after-hours rosters, including nights, weekends, and on-call duties once credentialed.
4. Supervise and support junior medical staff and contribute to medical student education.
5. Take part in leadership and management tasks within the department.
6. Engage in ongoing education, peer review, research, quality improvement, clinical audits, and teaching initiatives.

About you

You'll bring a collaborative, patient-centred approach to care and thrive in a culturally diverse environment. To be successful in this role you will:

1. Be eligible for general registration with the Medical Board of Australia;
2. Have 6 months experience as an RMO in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
3. Have excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to interact positively as a team member in a cross-cultural work environment.
