Community Recovery has lead responsibility for human and social recovery and resilience building including:

* delivery of human and social recovery, emotional wellbeing and practical supports where required.
* commissioning of medium and long term supports delivered both within the department and through funded non-government and local government partners.
* supporting coordinated local human service social services sector collaboration and cohesive and connected networks to build resilience and increase preparedness for individuals, communities and Queensland.

This role is the Principal Community Recovery Officer, Far North Queensland and is based in Cairns.


As a Principal Community Recovery Officer, You Will

* Leading the development and implementation of community recovery strategic and operational (event specific) plans.
* Leading and collaborating on the development and maintenance of community preparedness and response capability and capacity including:
o Partnering with other local services including local councils and state government agencies to prepare local plans
o Representing the department on disaster management groups, forums, and workshops
o Identifying and assessing training needs at a local and district level
o Developing and delivering training and facilitating participation in disaster management exercises.
* As the department's representative at the local, district and regional level, partner with communities and local services including local council, Queensland and Australian Government departments and non-government organisations to plan and implement human and social recovery and disaster management responses.
* Providing strategic advice and support to Senior Leaders in the management and delivery of community recovery services in response to disasters, crises, and incidents.
* Regularly reviewing and modifying established practices, processes, and policies to enhance preparedness and response to disaster events.
* Critically assessing and analysing disaster events and providing briefings and reports to internal partners and external organisations to inform matters of concern and identifying service gaps in the community and influencing others in the development of continuous improvements in disaster recovery efforts/activities.
* Contributing to the development and the delivery of an annual work plan of district operational activities working with key disaster management stakeholders.
* Integrating and coordinating internal business processes relating to human and social recovery activities through effective governance systems and strengthened business practices.
* Actively developing and maintaining positive working relationships between the Department and a range of stakeholders within and across government and broader human services networks that contribute to improvement of preparedness, coordination and response to disaster events and recovery efforts.
* Coordinating support after a disaster, crisis, or event for members of the community with complex and challenging needs through a multi-agency approach and referrals to financial, psychological and social services that assists in their recovery.
* Proactively managing, supervising, and training recovery staff on a range of administrative activities, ensuring effective and efficient delivery of services, as required.
* Preparing comprehensive reports, submissions, briefs, plans, presentations, and other correspondence of a complex nature.
* Working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, responding to changes in the natural environment, local and state service systems and government priorities and policies.
* Support and help maintain a workplace safety culture by ensuring that all policies and practices concerning Workplace Health and Safety are applied and a part of day-to-day operations.
* Participating in an on-call roster across the year to provide after-hours support to disaster management groups and senior Community Recovery staff.
