About the Role
We are seeking experienced and compassionate Disability Support Workers to support an NDIS participant living in a Supported Independent Living (SIL) home in Melton, Victoria.
This role involves providing daily support with personal care, community access, and skill development, while promoting independence, safety, and quality of life within the SIL environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Supporting participants with personal care and day-to-day living activities at home and in the community
* Providing positive behaviour support in line with individual behaviour support plans
* Using proactive and preventative strategies to manage and reduce challenging behaviours
* Supporting participants with complex needs, including non-verbal communication
* Maintaining clear, respectful, and effective communication with participants, families, and stakeholders
* Completing shift notes, incident reports, and data collection accurately and on time
* Working collaboratively with your team leader/service coordinator to implement and review support plans
* Contributing to a positive team culture focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for participants
* Maintaining professional boundaries and adhering to NDIS Practice Standards and company policies
* Being reliable, accountable, and responsive to both clients and team members
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
* Minimum Certificate III in Individual Support, Disability, Aged Care or higher (or willingness to obtain)
* Experience supporting people with mental health needs
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Problem-solving and de-escalation skills
Highly Desirable Experience:
* Supporting participants with ASD Level 3
* Experience managing self-harm behaviours
* Experience with physical aggression and complex behaviours
* Supporting non-verbal participants using alternative communication methods
* Experience implementing Positive Behaviour Support Plans
* Relevant training in behaviour management, crisis intervention, or restrictive practices (preferred)
