Executive Officer – Role Description
Carlton Inc. Traders Association
Position: Executive Officer (Part-Time) 8 – 10 hours per week.
Remuneration: Up to $30,000 per financial year
About the Role
The Executive Officer (EO) plays a pivotal role in supporting Carlton Inc., the recognised trader association for the Carlton precinct. Funded by the City of Melbourne, the EO's primary responsibility is to support the delivery of services and initiatives for local traders, strengthen community ties, and enhance the economic vitality of the area.
This is a dynamic role ideal for a highly organised, strategic thinker who's passionate about community, local business, and placemaking.
Key Responsibilities1. Strategic Planning & Vision Development
* Collaborate with the Carlton Inc. board to develop and maintain a clear vision for the precinct.
* Assist in the creation and execution of the association's annual business and activity plan based on strategic objectives.
* Support future-focused initiatives that align with community and economic development goals.
* Membership Development & Engagement
* Lead membership growth efforts, helping attract new traders to the association.
* Maintain open, consistent communication with existing members to ensure value and engagement.
* Promote the benefits of membership, including advocacy, marketing support, networking events and involvement in major campaigns.
* Administration & Governance
* Oversee day-to-day administrative functions: meeting coordination, minute-taking, filing, reporting, and document management.
* Ensure compliance with governance requirements, funding obligations, and reporting to the City of Melbourne.
* Support board operations while remaining independent from board decision-making.
* Independence & Accountability
* The EO must remain independent from the association board and from any member business.
* Cannot hold a position on the Carlton Inc. board of management or directly benefit from association programs.
Skills & Attributes
We're looking for someone who brings both professional skill and community passion to the table:
* Strong Executive Assistant or administrative experience
* Confident communicator (written and verbal)
* Highly dependable, proactive and detail-oriented
* Excellent time management and organisational skills
* Skilled in using cloud-based tools and communication platforms
* Strong sense of confidentiality and trustworthiness
* High emotional intelligence and ability to build positive relationships with a diverse community.
