Hamilton Island generates, transmits and distributes electricity, supplies water and wastewater treatment services across the entire Island for the benefit of residents, guests, employees and our community. Hamilton Island owns and operates our electrical distribution network through underwater sub stations powered from a 22km-long underwater power cable from the mainland and operates a powerhouse, housing diesel generators.
Your Role
A unique opportunity exists for an Electrical Services Technician. This valuable role contributes as a member of a team to perform installation and commissioning, maintenance and repairs of Hamilton Island's electrical distribution network in a timely manner, ensuring a high standard of product quality and safety.
- Handle the maintenance High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) electrical networks including our 12-Megawatt Diesel Generation Plant
- Test and repair airport runway lighting for smooth landings
- Perform auditing on new installations
- Prioritise urgent repairs for guest safety and satisfaction
- Form part of an on-call roster rotation that promptly addresses out of hours breakdowns as necessary
- Tasked with the upkeep and repair of hazardous area equipment, specifically the island's fuel systems
- Keep our water and sewerage plants in tip top shape
- Read and test the island's electrical usage meters

About You
- Extensive experience in electrical distribution networks, SCADA and PLC systems
- Electrical Fitter Mechanic Trades Certificate (Essential)
- Minimum 5 years' full time Trade experience (Essential)
- High voltage switching and coordination experience and/or qualifications/accreditation - 22/11KV (Essential)
- QLD open / unrestricted driver's license (Essential)
- Ability to be approved for and hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) (Essential)
- Previous experience with electrical instrumentation systems ideally associated with water and sewerage systems (Desirable)
- High voltage polymeric cable jointing experience (Desirable)
- Previous experience with diesel powered generators (Desirable)
- Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas (EEHA) qualifications/accreditation (Desirable)
- Airfield Lighting basic (Desirable)
- Experience within the Tourism / Resort industry (Desirable)
- Willing to be part of an 'on call' roster to attend out-of-hours breakdowns as required
