About the opportunity DPIRD’s Vessel Monitoring branch currently has two vacancies available for immediate filling: One (1) permanent – full time Level 3 Vessel Monitoring Officer One (1) permanent – full time Level 5 Vessel Monitoring Analyst The L3 Vessel Monitoring Officer operates and maintains the Vessel Monitoring System (VMS). This includes assisting in the collection, collation and dissemination of compliance and intelligence data for a range of stakeholders. The officer also liaises with and provides advice to those in the fishing industry, community groups and government agencies on VMS activities. Ideal candidates will have knowledge of or experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or tracking data technologies. The ability to communicate with a diverse range of people, solve problems and analyse information is also key to the role. The L5 Vessel Monitoring Analyst is involved with projects that target emerging patterns and trends in fisheries vessel offences. The position requires strong analytical skills to undertake monitoring and research related to the Vessel Monitoring System (VMS). The analyst also needs to be a confident presenter, capable of delivering high-level briefings to a range of stakeholders. Ideal candidates will have knowledge and experience in the field of intelligence and investigations within a compliance environment. The ability to analyse and compare data from different sources, and identify issues and make recommendations for ongoing improvement will be critical to success in the role. The ability to build effective relationships and liaise with a wide range of stakeholders is also key.
