Volunteer Opportunity: Social Connection for a Lonely Senior
The Australian Government-funded Aged Care Volunteer Visiting Scheme connects volunteers with older individuals who are feeling lonely and/or socially isolated, to build friendships and reduce feelings of loneliness. As a volunteer, you will be paired with an aging senior to provide regular social support visits in their home. Activities during your visit can include conversation, playing board games, listening to music or sharing stories.
This lovely woman in her late 70s lives independently in Grovedale and is looking to reconnect with her community after losing her partner last year. She has a rich history in local life, having worked as a Geelong taxi driver for 20 years. Her passions include all sports, especially cricket, football, horse racing, and she is a proud Geelong Cats supporter. She enjoys gardening, diamond painting, 60s/70s music, and going out for lunch. Due to a shoulder injury, knitting has become difficult for her.
