They will work collaboratively with the Leadership Team in leading staff to develop their knowledge and skills to drive school improvement, and ultimately lead to student success. This will occur through the lens of the Australian Curriculum as well as the school's signature pedagogies, focusing on improving student outcomes. As a lead learner, they will need to have a strong relational capability to quickly develop positive relationships between students, staff and the wider school community. They will have well developed strategic thinking and analytical skills to contribute to our school improvement agenda.Experience as a leader in implementing school-wide processes that are underpinned by a comprehensive teaching and learning support framework is sought, with demonstrated experience in enacting the Australian Curriculum, and capability in leading people to enact the pedagogies of Comprehensive Literacy and Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) as well as supporting the needs of students with complex communication through Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).About The RoleAs Head of Department - Engagement and Wellbeing, you will have responsibility for leading the following activities and delivery of the following key tasks:Provide leadership and guidance for the implementation of innovative measures aimed at improving student learning outcomes;Intentionally collaborate and consult with a range of stakeholders, both within and external to the school, to ensure everyone is goal oriented and focused on student success;Be an active member of the PBL committee;Support and build teacher capacity in trauma informed practices, Essential Skills for Classroom Management, Zones of Regulation, Restorative Practice processes, Tier 2 & 3 strategies and performing functional behaviour assessments;Develop and support the implementation of Individual Behaviour Support Plans and Risk Management Assessments for Tier 2 and 3 students after Functional Behaviour Assessments;Lead case management discussions and provide universal supports to staff;Support transition processes for new students, ensuring both staff and student are supported to facilitate a successful transition;Share ideas and support the growth of staff capacity to implement evidence-based strategies;Increasing student and social and emotional wellbeing by using research-based programs;Collaboratively develop and embed a Staff Wellbeing Framework, supporting staff to have the tools and supports to thrive in a special school context.Please refer to the attached role description for any mandatory requirements for this position.How To ApplyPlease attach a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (referees should have an understanding of your relevant previous work history); andA 2-pg response to the How you will be Assessed section of the attached role description.We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.Applications remain current for 12 months from the closing date and may be considered for appointment to identical or similar vacancies within the Department.Applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.Salary rate shown is reflective of full-time (1.0 FTE).The Department of Education is a family inclusive workplace.
