Assistant Quality Assurance Officer (Fire Safety Maintenance)

Location – Parramatta Hybrid

Employment type – Temporary till 30 June 2028

Salary: Clerk Grade 5/6, $ 99,938- $ 110,271 per annum + superannuation

Your role

Do you have a passion for fire safety maintenance and would like to use your trade/building/construction industry knowledge to help make a positive difference in our NSW social housing maintenance delivery?

Homes NSW is a division of the Department of Communities and Justice. It brings together the housing and homelessness functions of the Department of Communities and Justice, the NSW Land and Housing Corporation, Aboriginal Housing Office and key worker housing functions from across government all under one roof.

Homes NSW leads work to deliver more social and affordable housing, end the cycle of homelessness, and deliver quality public housing to our 262,000 tenants across NSW.

You will support the planning and conduction of Quality Assurance (QA) on site audit inspections on a range of programs.

What you'll do

Your role will include:

* Conduct specialised fire safety compliance inspections for Housing Portfolio's Fire Safety Maintenance program.
* Perform thorough and detailed audit/inspections of fire safety systems and equipment, adhering to established standards and regulations to assess fire detection, alarm systems, sprinkler systems, emergency lighting, and other critical components to identify any deficiencies or areas requiring maintenance or repair.
* Delivers timely, accurate and effective QA site and desktop inspections by adhering to computer-aided auditing techniques (CAAT) as well as traditional auditing methods, generate audit reports to identify non-compliances.
* Support the preparations of audit plans using data stratification and sample extraction methods and coordinate inspections schedule to organise access appointments in a timely manner.
* Close out of audit findings by ensuring outcomes of audits are collated and summarised in order to liaise with relevant service providers in accordance with Performance Management Framework (PMF) of relevant contracts.
* Support the conduction of training and accreditation of external service providers to support consistent and adequate resource inductions to achieve program objectives to high standards.
* Provide advice to develop and issue Clarification and Practice notes to Service Providers, on range of compliance and upgrade programs in order to clarify requirements and achieve consistency.
* Aid in the provision of specialist advice on internal control and participate in enhancing internal audit standards and practices within Housing Portfolio.
* Provide advice, reports, feedback to compliance issues to key stakeholders in a manner that contributes to positive relationship building and supports ongoing effective and efficient working environment.

What we're looking for

* Understanding of the AS 1851, Australian Building Codes, Australian Standards, Government, or commercial probity and contracting standards.
* Relevant qualification in Fire safety and/or sound construction building maintenance and/or building construction experience/exposure, together with field inspection experience and measurement of performance against standards.
* Extensive experiences and knowledge of residential property maintenance and improvements.
* Current driver's license.
* Desirable – experience in compliance inspections of building essential services
* Desirable - prior experience and exposure to fire safety maintenance in apartment buildings.
* Statewide travel is required
