About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Database Engineer / Database Administrator to take ownership of the stability, performance, and security of core database platforms.
This is a hands‑on technical role responsible for administering and optimising PostgreSQL and MongoDB environments supporting business‑critical systems. You will work closely with engineering and platform teams to ensure databases are secure, resilient, and operationally sound in high‑assurance environments.
Key Responsibilities
* Administer and maintain PostgreSQL and MongoDB database environments
* Monitor and optimise database performance, including queries, indexing, and configuration tuning
* Plan and execute database upgrades, patching, and migrations
* Design, implement, and test backup and disaster recovery strategies
* Implement and maintain database security controls, access management, and audit requirements
* Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues across development and production environments
* Support development teams with database design, schema management, and performance advice
* Create and maintain database documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures
The Successful Candidate
You will be a strong hands‑on database professional with experience operating in secure or regulated environments.
Essential experience:
* 5+ years' experience in database administration or database engineering
* Strong hands‑on experience with PostgreSQL
* Experience working with NoSQL databases, particularly MongoDB
* Solid understanding of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning
* Experience with scripting and automation (e.g. Bash, PowerShell, Python, SQL)
* Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
* Ability to work independently and take ownership of critical systems
* Australian citizenship with eligibility to obtain and maintain NV2 security clearance
Highly regarded:
* Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
* Familiarity with containerised environments (Docker and/or Kubernetes)
* Experience with monitoring and logging tools
* Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
* Relevant database or infrastructure certifications
