We’re seeking a highly experienced Principal Security Specialist to support security operations for a QLD Government Department. This contract opportunity places you at the heart of whole-of-government security services, driving innovation, protection, and digital excellence across the state.
About The Role
As a senior member of the team, you will manage and lead a high-performing Security Operations team in a 24/7 environment, delivering end-to-end services including gateway protection, firewall management, secure VPN, and DNS for Queensland Government agencies.
You’ll also play a key role in uplifting security infrastructure, embedding governance frameworks (like ISO27001), and supporting cloud-based services across AWS and Azure environments.
Required Experience
* Extensive experience in enterprise security technologies – Juniper SRX, Palo Alto, Cisco, Checkpoint, ZTNA, secure VPN, DNS, and mail relay
* Strong understanding of network security architecture and cloud security platforms
* Hands-on leadership in security service delivery within a Managed Services context
* Proven success leading teams and projects in dynamic, enterprise-scale environment
* Exposure to securing Red Hat Linux and/or Microsoft Windows environments (desirable)
* A passion for driving security innovation and continuous service improvement
* Alignment with the Leadership Competencies for Queensland framework
What You’ll Be Doing
* Provide technical leadership across firewall, gateway, and network security services.
* Drive continuous improvement of security processes and customer experiences.
* Consult with stakeholders and develop tailored, scalable infrastructure solutions aligned with evolving threat landscapes.
* Ensure compliance with leading security frameworks in a Managed Services Provider (MSP) environment.
* Support the implementation and evolution of ISO27001 operations.
