ICU Locum Doctor | Calvary Mater Newcastle | 3-Month Locum | $180/hr
The Opportunity:
Gorilla Jobs is seeking an ICU night shift locum doctor for Calvary Mater Newcastle from February to May. You will work 8 pm to 8 am, on a one week on, one week off roster. Your on‑weeks will be focused on night shift service provision; your off‑weeks are completely free from rostered shifts, giving you the option to travel home, rest or pick up other work if suitable.
This role is well suited to an ICU Registrar or Senior Resident with solid acute care experience who is comfortable managing unwell ward and ED patients overnight with intensivist support available on‑call.
Clinical Environment:
* Experience in a Level 5 ICU with approximately 6 beds
* Exposure to around 600 ICU admissions per year
* Involvement with an active ICU outreach service managing 1,200+ rapid response calls annually
* High‑quality night shift experience across ED, wards and ICU
* A supportive environment with two JMOs onsite overnight and intensivist backup on‑call
Key Responsibilities:
* Carry the 50540 code pager overnight
* Assess and manage acutely unwell patients from ED and the wards
* Provide ongoing management of patients within ICU
* Attend Rapid Response calls for Calvary Mater Newcastle patients, staff and visitors
* Attend Rapid Response calls for inpatients requiring mental health support
* Prepare discharge paperwork for patients ready to leave ICU
* Support ED with patients needing ICU/HDU care, including organising retrievals where appropriate
Eligibility Criteria:
* AHPRA General Registration
* NSW Working with Children Check and National Police Check (or willing to obtain)
* Australian working rights
* Willingness to complete hospital credentialing and onboarding
