Administration Officer - After Hours Ward Receptionist

About this role

As the After Hours Ward Receptionist for Ward 1C (Vascular), you will be the first point of contact for patients, families and staff during evening shifts. Working closely with the nursing and administration teams, you will provide timely, accurate information and support to ensure a smooth patient journey and efficient ward operations.


In this role, you will

* Deliver a professional, welcoming front counter service to patients, visitors and staff.
* Answer and direct incoming calls, taking and relaying accurate messages.
* Assist visitors with ward access and information by appropriately accessing patient details.
* Conduct patient interviews to verify demographic and financial information and complete the Patient Election Form (PEF) process.
* This position is temporary part‑time (24 hours per fortnight) to April 2026, working PM shifts Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 16:00–20:00.


About you

You are a customer‑focused administrator with a calm, professional manner and the ability to thrive in a busy hospital ward environment. You communicate clearly and respectfully, are highly organised, and take pride in delivering accurate, high‑quality work that supports safe patient care.


You will bring

* Demonstrated experience in a customer service and/or reception role, ideally in a health or similar complex environment.
* Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential enquiries with tact and empathy.
* Proven organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work independently after hours.
* High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in data entry, documentation and record‑keeping.

The Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) is a tertiary health care centre providing care in most major adult specialties. We provide world‑class health care to Brisbane City's southern suburbs across emergency, medical, mental health and surgical services, including liver and kidney transplant.

We are nationally recognised for our expertise in trauma management and organ transplants and are one of Australia's leading academic and research health centres. The PAH as a major medical research precinct hosts Australia's most advanced medical research facility, the Translational Research Institute (TRI) as well as a new Clinical Research Facility for the discoveries made at TRI to be trialed in a safe clinical environment.
