Job Description
Online Star Pty Ltd The Engineering Technologist will work primarily in the field supporting the construction, upgrade, and maintenance of telecommunications infrastructure across nbn network projects. This role involves providing on-site technical supervision, assisting installation teams, performing quality inspections, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring all civil and fibre works comply with engineering specifications, nbn standards, and workplace safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities Provide on-site technical support and supervision during telecommunications infrastructure construction and maintenance works. Conduct site inspections and verify site conditions prior to commencement of construction activities. Supervise and guide field crews performing trenching, horizontal directional drilling (HDD), pit installation, pipe proving, fibre hauling, splicing, and testing activities.
Ensure all works comply with telecommunications engineering standards, project specifications, and safety requirements. Perform field quality inspections and identify defects for rectification. Troubleshoot issues related to fibre optic networks, conduits, pits, and other telecommunications infrastructure components.
Review and verify installation of infrastructure such as pits (P5, P6), conduits, fibre cables, and associated equipment. Conduct fibre optic testing using telecommunications test equipment including OTDR and fibre power meters. Interpret telecommunications network plans, construction drawings, and technical documentation.
Prepare field reports, inspection documentation, and as-built records. Coordinate with project managers, supervisors, and stakeholders regarding site progress and technical matters. Identify potential risks and implement corrective actions where required.
Ensure compliance with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) regulations, SWMS procedures, and hazard management practices. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Engineering Technology, Telecommunications Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related field. Minimum 1 years of relevant industry experience in telecommunications infrastructure or network deployment projects.
Knowledge of telecommunications network technologies including FTTP, FTTN, and HFC. Practical experience in fibre optic installation, civil construction works, and telecommunications infrastructure deployment. Ability to read and interpret telecommunications network designs and engineering drawings.
Experience using fibre optic testing equipment such as OTDR and fibre power meters. Understanding of Australian WHS and construction safety requirements. Strong problem-solving, technical analysis, and communication skills.
Valid driver licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
