Consultant Paediatrician (Community Child Health)

This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic community paediatric team based at Seaside View Child Development Centre in Brighton. The post holder will hold a lead role within the department (to be agreed with the applicant) along with a child development/ neurodisability caseload.

This post is a substantial post for 7 PAs. There may be an opportunity to add to these PAs in the next few months.The successful applicant will join a team of 8 other consultants (6.0 WTE), a specialist doctor, a speciality doctor and a nurse consultant to participate in all aspects of community paediatric work. The team are actively involved in training and there are two paediatric resident doctors including 1 national grid post, a foundation doctor (FY2) and a GP trainee placed in the child development centre.

We are looking for a candidate who is innovative and flexible, is committed to multidisciplinary working and will actively participate in developing new approaches to the delivery of high-quality child health services.

Applicants must have valid registration with the GMC and a License to Practice and be on the Specialist Register for Paediatrics or be within 6 months of being admitted to the Register at the time of interview.


Main duties of the job

The community paediatric team is based at Seaside View Child Development Centre, along with the multidisciplinary therapy team, the community children's nursing and CiC health teams. The Centre provides a bright, spacious and family friendly environment for multidisciplinary working. The team has been innovative, developing new ways of working to meet our population needs.

There are close links with CAMHS with significant investment in the neurodevelopmental pathway.There are also close links with the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust and with Education and Social Services within Brighton and Hove Council.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will undertake assessment of children referred with concerns about neurodevelopment/neurodisability, including complex physical disability and socialcommunication disorders.

The post holder may contribute to undertaking Initial Health Assessments and Permanence Assessments.

The post holder will provide advice for children with special educational needs and disability and will collaborate with multiagency planning for children with complex needs. The post holder will contribute to multiagency planning for children with safeguarding concerns.

Thepost holder will hold an area of lead responsibility (to be decided).

The department is committed to teaching and provides clinical and research placements for students from Brighton and Sussex Medical School.

The department has been involved in a number of research projects. There is an active regional research network and research activity is encouraged.

Person Specification


Qualifications and Professional Registration

* Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
* MRCPCH or equivalent
* Certificate of Completion of Training in Paediatrics or equivalent and Inclusion on the Paediatric Specialist Register (or within 6 months at time of interview)
* Recognised Child Protection Training (higher level)
* Relevant Higher Degree (eg MSc in Community Child Health, MD, PhD)


Experience

* At least two years of Higher Specialty Training in Community Child Health/ Paediatric Neurodisability/ Neurology or equivalent experience
* Experience in the field of safeguarding / child protection
* Experience of carrying out an audit project
* Commitment to and experience of undergraduate and postgraduate learning and teaching
* Experience in paediatric sexual abuse examination
* Experience of involvement in a research project and publication or published audit project


Skills and Knowledge

* Effective clinical skills
* Demonstrable management, leadership and motivational skills
* Ability to manage own time and workload and prioritise clinical work
* Ability to work successfully in a multi professional/disciplinary team and across organisational boundaries

£109,725 to £145,478 a year per annum pro rata.
