About the Role

The Census is a comprehensive snapshot of Australia that helps us understand how we're changing. It informs our understanding of what we need now and into the future.
As a Field Officer, you will represent the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and serve as the direct link between the Census and the public. You will work in your local area, covering a mix of weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
Your key responsibilities include:
* Promoting Census participation and answering questions from the public about the Census.
* Distributing Census letters and forms to households and collecting completed forms for secure return to the ABS.
* Visiting households to follow up with residents who have not successfully completed their Census.
* Conducting assisted interviews with people who require help.
* Ensuring safety and well-being during field work, including ensuring the safety of yourself and others.
* Using electronic devices to record information and track work completion.
* Utilizing personal vehicles for work-related tasks.
* Regularly communicating with managers about issues and progress in your work area.
Key Qualities and Experience
* Able to enter information into applications using mobile devices or tablets.
* Highly organized to manage scheduled routes and paperwork effectively.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build trust-based relationships.
* Ability to work in teams and independently.
* Capacity to follow instructions and procedures accurately and safely.
* Adaptable under pressure and able to adjust to changing circumstances.
* Aware of personal safety when visiting unfamiliar neighborhoods or households.
* Capable of communicating sensitively and respectfully, considering different cultural backgrounds.
