The Opportunity Robert Half is partnering with a prominent Australian group to appoint an IT Security Lead for their Brisbane operations. This role is designed for a security professional who thrives on the intersection of governance and practical IT operations. You will lead the security function for a complex, multi-entity environment, moving beyond policy creation into the hands-on delivery and design of security solutions. The Role Reporting to the IT Operations Manager, you will lead a small Information Security team with the goal of balancing security uplift with business continuity. You will act as the primary advisor on IT risk, ensuring that security initiatives are pragmatic, well-communicated, and aligned with group strategy. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the IT Security team's day-to-day priorities, ensuring delivery against agreed outcomes and timelines Mentor, coach, and develop team members, supporting recruitment and succession planning Research, design, and implement information security solutions using a risk-based, practical approach Review technical designs and proposals to ensure security alignment without disrupting operations Partner with internal stakeholders and external vendors to translate technical risk into clear business decisions Own and enforce IT security standards, operating procedures, and group cyber security policies Support the IT Manager in shaping and executing long-term security and technology strategy Manage security-related escalations and allocate resources to ensure timely resolution Maintain high-quality, standardised security documentation and reporting About you You are a pragmatic security leader who understands that good security enables the business rather than slowing it down. Strong experience applying frameworks such as Essential Eight, ISM, or ISO 27001 in real environments Background in IT security or information security roles with accountability for risk outcomes Practical exposure to governance, risk, and compliance, not just advisory work Experience leading, mentoring, or developing security practitioners Sound judgement and a risk-based mindset The ability to communicate clearly with both technical teams and senior business stakeholders Why Join?
