Experienced Cosmetic Formulation Chemist / Scientist
We are seeking an innovative, hands-on, and detail-driven Cosmetic Formulation Chemist/Scientist with demonstrated experience creating market-leading skincare, body-care, and personal-care products.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cosmetic R&D, excellent technical problem-solving skills, a deep understanding of regulatory and quality standards, and a passion for developing products that deliver exceptional consumer results.
You will be working in a small dedicated team and not a large corporate.
This is a full-time onsite position.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the end-to-end development of new cosmetic formulations—from concept, bench development, and stability testing through to scale-up and commercialisation.
Create, refine, and optimise formulas across skincare, body-care, haircare, and specialty cosmetic categories in line with brand briefs and performance requirements.
Conduct comprehensive stability, compatibility, preservative efficacy (PET), and performance testing to ensure product safety, robustness, and regulatory compliance.
Perform analytical and physical testing (e.g., viscosity, pH, specific gravity, microscopy, rheology) and interpret results to guide formulation improvements.
Maintain accurate and detailed batch records, lab notebooks, formulation data sheets, and documentation for regulatory and GMP compliance.
Work closely with production teams to support scale-up, troubleshooting, and manufacturing transfer, ensuring formulas are production-ready and cost-optimised.
Evaluate and qualify raw materials, conduct supplier discussions, and stay updated on new ingredients, emerging trends, and formulation technologies.
Provide scientific insight to marketing and product development teams, including claims support, ingredient rationales, and product validation data.
Ensure compliance with AICIS, international cosmetic regulations, quality management systems, and workplace health and safety standards.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product performance, quality, and manufacturing efficiency.
Qualifications and Skills
Minimum 3–5+ years of experience in cosmetic formulation, product development, or cosmetic science R&D.
Proven success formulating commercially launched cosmetic or personal-care products.
Strong understanding of emulsions, surfactants, actives, preservatives, polymers, and rheology modifiers.
Experience with formulation troubleshooting, stability testing protocols, analytical techniques, and GMP-compliant documentation.
Knowledge of AICIS, MoCRA (preferred), and global cosmetic regulatory frameworks.
Strong problem-solving capability, creativity, and a passion for innovation.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within R&D, production, and cross-functional teams.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including documentation, reporting, and cross-department collaboration.
