About This Opportunity
The successful appointees will undertake delivery of tutorials with associated preparation, student consultation and marking in first year, second year, third year and postgraduate economics courses. This position is based at the St Lucia Campus and successful appointees must be available to attend on campus.
Delivery
Delivery or presentation of tutorials. Tutorial means any educational delivery described as a tutorial in a course or unit outline, or in an official timetable issued by the employer. Casual Academics in the School of Economics deliver a tutorial (or equivalent delivery through other than face-to-face teaching) of a specified duration and perform related non-contact duties such as preparation, marking and student consultation. These duties are directly associated with the delivery of a specific tutorial.
Responsibilities
- Preparing and delivering theoretical and/or practical tutorials that are engaging, context-relevant and where possible, participative.
- Tutoring students in face to face delivery mode.
- Providing support to students, including consultation and assessment feedback.
- Undertaking marking of assessment tasks as directed by course coordinators, with hours for marking confirmed by School Administration staff prior to commencing marking.
- Maintaining, and where possible improving, the quality of tutorials, as measured through evaluation instruments to meet industry and educational standards.
- Providing tutorial support for other positions during planned or unexpected absences.
- Understanding and applying University Rules relevant to teaching and learning practice.
- Maintaining class participation and attendance lists as required.
- Maintaining a high level of performance on evaluations by students.
- Attending meetings, induction sessions or required training sessions.

- All Casual academics are required to comply with legislation and University policy relevant to the duties undertaken, including but not limited to the University Code of Conduct, OH&S; requirements, sustainability responsibilities and Education Services for Overseas Students Act and related legislation.

About You
Candidates enrolled in the BECON or BAFE must have completed at least 10 units (5 courses) of UQ ECON-coded courses by July 2025 and achieved a GPA of 6.0 or better in economics courses. Other eligible programs have different unit and GPA requirements as specified in the original job details. PhD candidates are encouraged to apply and do not need to have studied previously at UQ. What We Can Offer
This is a Casual position with no firm advance commitment to ongoing work. The casual hourly rate is 55.36 per hour, plus super.
