We're seeking a passionate and motivated Software Engineer with a strong focus on back-end development to join a well-established team in Newcastle. You'll work across Java‐based services, integrations, and web applications, helping deliver high‐quality solutions that support our business and customers.
In this role, you'll collaborate closely with a team of software developers and product owners to design, build, and maintain services that are reliable, secure, and easy to evolve.
Your key responsibilities will include:
* Writing clean, maintainable, and testable code following best practices, including strong adherence to web application security
* Building and integrating RESTful and asynchronous APIs to introduce new features and enhance existing products
* Collaborating with team members through code reviews, testing, technical discussions, and knowledge sharing
* Collaborating with other teams to support and maintain our applications
* Working with relational databases, including writing efficient and optimised SQL
* Contributing to front‐end features using Vue.js
* Helping modernise legacy systems and front ends using modern technologies.
Experience & Skills Required
You will bring 3+ years of experience in a Java-focused Software Engineering role, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications (ideally B.CompSci, B.Eng (Software), or equivalent).
To succeed in this role, you will have most of the following skills and experience:
* Experience with Spring / Spring Boot and the broader Java ecosystem
* Skills writing SQL, with experience in Oracle or other relational database systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL)
* Experience integrating with third‐party APIs, including asynchronous and RESTful APIs
* Experience working collaboratively in a team environment, including performing code reviews and testing.
* An understanding of web application security principles and best practices
Ideally, you will have some experience or familiarity with:
* Vue.js or an equivalent front‐end framework (e.g., React, Angular)
* Atlassian tools such as Jira, Bitbucket, and Bamboo
