The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Education Academic to join us in a teaching-focused appointment. You will contribute to the delivery of high-quality learning across Certificate, Diploma, Bachelor and Master's programs in education and tertiary preparation, teaching both online and on campus.

We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander approaches, HPE, Digital Technologies, Early Childhood, Mathematics, Outdoor Education and Professional Experience (PEx), alongside a strong commitment to evidence-informed, innovative teaching and the scholarship of learning and teaching.

In this role, you will actively engage with the education sector, building strong partnerships with schools, early childhood settings and community organisations to support high-quality professional experience placements. You will also contribute to an emerging research profile in education, collaborating on research projects, supporting scholarly outputs, and working with colleagues to strengthen curriculum and foster a vibrant academic environment within the School of Education.

Please note that, due to the teaching-focused nature of this vacancy, the successful incumbent will be primarily engaged in teaching and teaching-related activities (75% of total workload allocation), with the remaining allocation assigned to scholarship and engagement.

You will:

4. Deliver high-quality, engaging learning experiences using evidence-informed pedagogy, diverse modes of delivery, technology, and effective assessment;
5. Develop expertise, lead research projects, publish outcomes, supervise higher degree candidates, and contribute to research collaborations and grant applications;
6. Build and maintain partnerships with schools, industry, and community stakeholders locally, nationally, and internationally;
7. Contribute to strategic priorities, curriculum development, academic administration, and a positive, inclusive, and supportive workplace culture; and
8. Pursue professional growth, participate in academic development, and undertake other duties aligned with evolving teaching, research, and institutional needs.

About you:

You are a dynamic higher education educator, skilled in designing, developing, and delivering high-quality curricula. You bring research experience and potential, including familiarity with relevant methodologies, publications, and collaboration within research teams. Well connected to professional bodies and community networks, you demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, collegiality, and a commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive academic environment that supports both staff and student success. Motivated to grow professionally, you actively engage in academic development and are eager to continue learning and refining your expertise as an academic.

You will possess:

9. Completion of a Master's required; desirable is completion or near-completion of a doctoral qualification in a relevant field or equivalent accreditation and standing;
10. Effectiveness as a teacher including the capacity to conceive, develop and deliver higher education curricula and contribute to relevant areas of teaching;
11. Research experience and potential including for example: refereed publications, participation in research teams and sound knowledge of research methodologies relevant to the discipline/field;
12. Membership of and sound connections with relevant professional bodies and community groups and/or in professional practice;
13. Strong personal qualities and collegial approaches that contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive academic environment which is conducive to engagement and achievement for both staff and students;
14. The desire to participate in academic development activities and continue to learn and improve as an effective academic.

Additional Information

The position will be open by merit selection to any casual or fixed term Academic Staff member who has worked casually at the University in at least three (3) semesters in the last four (4) years and has not held a continuing role in line with clause 18 of the University of the Sunshine Coast Enterprise Agreement (2023).
