Leading Hand Drainage – Kilkivan
A varied and challenging role.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the coordination and supervision of daily activities of work crews whilst performing construction and maintenance tasks.
Remuneration
Competitive annual salary commencing at $73,743, plus up to 13% superannuation.

Role Overview
Based at our Kilkivan depot, the Leading Hand works under remote supervision and is responsible for providing high level support to the Supervisor through the coordination and supervision of daily activities of work crews while performing construction and maintenance tasks.
Responsibilities
Demonstrated ability to perform work at trade or equivalent level under remote supervision.
Ability to operate and maintain plant and equipment consistent with competencies held.
Capacity to perform physical labouring tasks.
Effectively motivate and coordinate a team to complete daily jobs within a work environment of moderate complexity.
Manage time, set priorities and plan works in an environment of changing priorities and competing demands.
Sound numeracy, written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of workplace health and safety considerations relevant to the area and proven ability to limit risks.
Ensure all work meets legislative requirements and responsibilities of Council.
Queensland 'C' Class driver's licence that is current and maintained.
Construction Industry White/Blue card.
Assist the Supervisor in achieving quality, safety and environmental outcomes for civil construction and maintenance activities.
Implement and monitor policies, procedures and programs to meet legislative requirements and ensure safety of all employees, contractors and members of the public.
Complete risk assessments and follow established work procedures.
Promptly raise issues with immediate Supervisor.
Plan own work and work of assigned staff to achieve task completion through efficient use of available plant, machinery and human resources.
Lead the daily work of the crew while establishing and maintaining an environment which encourages teamwork.
Guide and assist trainees.
Perform general labouring and operate plant for which the holder is licensed.
Ensure plant, tools and equipment are maintained in good order and in accordance with the operator's manual, council's procedures and best practice.
Accurately interpret plans, instructions and specifications.
Use judgement and experience within the trade to solve problems on the job.
Implement traffic control schemes when required.
Champion technology improvements to support a mobile workforce.
Contribute to the development of procedures in relation to area of work.
Work autonomously, cohesively and collaboratively with other council teams.
Qualifications
Trade or equivalently experienced in construction and maintenance of roads including earthworks, pavements, drainage, stormwater and concreting.
Valid Queensland 'C' Class driver's licence.
White/Blue card for construction industry.
Experience operating plant and equipment.
Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
