About the Role
Sitting within a specialised skilled migration team, this role helps deliver the state’s skilled and business migration programs, ensuring visa nomination places are used effectively to attract talent that supports priority industries and regional workforce needs.
As a Migration Services Officer, you will manage a portfolio of nomination applications, assess eligibility against Commonwealth and state criteria, and provide clear guidance to prospective migrants, migration agents and employers considering the state as their long-term destination. The role combines policy interpretation, case assessment, stakeholder engagement and data analysis to support the broader migration strategy and program settings.
You will work closely with senior staff to prepare advice and briefings, contribute to process improvements and support promotional activities that position the state as a destination of choice for highly skilled professionals and business migrants.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess applications for state nomination across skilled and business migration streams, ensuring compliance with relevant Commonwealth legislation, policy and state program guidelines.
- Review qualification, employment and business documentation to verify authenticity and determine whether applicants will contribute to identified skills and investment priorities.
- Research, analyse and interpret migration policy, labour market information and program data to support the development and refinement of guidelines, selection criteria and program settings.
- Prepare clear, well-structured written material including briefings, minutes, submissions, internal advice, talking points and correspondence for senior managers and executives on migration issues and program performance.
- Provide accurate and timely advice to prospective applicants, migration agents, education providers, recruiters and employers on nomination requirements, processes and timeframes, primarily via email, phone and webinars.
- Develop and deliver presentations, factsheets, website content and other communication tools to promote the state’s skilled migration and business nomination offerings domestically and internationally.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of process improvements, including standard operating procedures, checklists and quality assurance measures to strengthen efficiency, consistency and audit readiness.
- Maintain accurate case records, data and reporting in case management and CRM systems, ensuring privacy, security and data integrity standards are met.
- Prioritise and manage a high volume of applications and enquiries, balancing service standards with the need for detailed due diligence on eligibility and risk.
- Monitor program trends, report on key metrics (such as processing times, volume and refusal reasons) and identify opportunities to improve client experience and program outcomes.
- Build strong working relationships with internal teams (policy, analytics, regional offices, legal and communications) as well as external agencies, industry groups and education providers to support a coordinated approach to migration initiatives.
- Support small projects and initiatives, including consultation sessions, stakeholder briefings, program reviews and system enhancements as required.
About You
- Experience in migration, visa processing, immigration services, regulatory assessment, case management or a related public policy/service delivery environment, ideally within government or a large complex organisation.
- Sound knowledge (or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge) of Australian skilled and business migration frameworks, including relevant visa subclasses and state nomination programs administered in partnership with the Commonwealth.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret legislation, policy and guidelines, review complex documentation and apply consistent, evidence-based decisions in line with program rules.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume environment while meeting agreed turnaround times, quality standards and audit requirements.
- Excellent written communication skills, with experience drafting structured briefs, reports, emails and client-facing content for diverse audiences including executives and external stakeholders.
- Confident verbal communicator, able to explain complex migration requirements in plain language, deliver presentations and respond to challenging enquiries with professionalism and empathy.
- Demonstrated commitment to high-quality customer service and continuous improvement, including actively seeking feedback and using data to refine processes and guidelines.
- Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to coordinate small projects, contribute to implementation plans and adjust priorities as program settings evolve.
- High level of integrity, accountability and discretion when handling sensitive personal information, supported by attention to detail and thorough record-keeping practices.
- Comfortable working with digital tools and case management systems, including the MS Office suite and online collaboration platforms; experience with CRM or workflow systems will be highly regarded.
- Tertiary qualifications in law, public policy, business, international relations, human resources, migration, or a related discipline are desirable; a Graduate Diploma in Australian Migration Law and Practice or registration as a migration agent is an advantage but not essential.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion and respectful engagement with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
- Valid working rights in Australia are essential. Due to the nature of this government contract, sponsorship is not available; applicants must be Australian citizens, permanent residents, or hold a long-term visa with full ongoing work rights in Australia.
- As a mandatory requirement for this contract role required by our client, applicants are kindly asked to complete a compliance check and upload their work rights verification at www.charterdiligence.com.au/portal. Incomplete submissions may not be considered. If you have any questions or need assistance with the process, please don’t hesitate to contact our team—we’re here to help.
Application Process
Important: Due to the high volume of applications and the limited submission timeframe, we may not be able to contact all applicants. This is not a reflection of interest, but a result of operational constraints. As part of mandatory government contract requirements, priority will be given to candidates who have completed all necessary compliance checks. For applicants with privacy concerns regarding work rights verification submission, documents may be presented in person at our local offices for sighting.
We encourage candidates who are passionate about making a difference and possess the necessary experience and skills to apply.
