The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Offender Management Officer to provide a critical role at Tarrengower Prison.


About the Business Unit

Tarrengower is a minimum security prison accommodating up to 72 female offenders and is situated 2 kms from Maldon in Central Victoria. Tarrengower's emphasis is on release preparation and community reintegration through the provisions of programs within a rehabilitative environment. Tarrengower emphasises the principles of a healthy prison where children can be accommodated with their mothers ensuring the family unit is maintained and developed. Tarrengower strongly recognises cultural diversity, respecting individual religious, spiritual and cultural beliefs. Tarrengower has an operating model based on trauma informed practice and with a focus on child safe principles.


About the Role

The role of the Offender Management Officer is to support the Offender Services Supervisor and the Offender Management Framework within the prison. Their role is to act as 'change agents', through the practice of mentoring and training custodial staff regarding offender management practices, promoting good practice through quality assurance and developing/improving the location's offender management processes to ensure they align with the Offender Management Framework.

Some of your duties will include:

* Support the implementation of the Offender Management initiatives and processes to achieve the objectives of the Offender Management Framework
* Provide mentoring and training to case workers regarding offender management processes including case planning, strategy implementation, motivating compliance and monitoring progress of prisoners on their caseload.
* Liaise with the Offender Management Supervisor and the leadership team members for the purpose of ensuring consistent, quality offender management processes across the location.
* Assist in the development and maintenance of both paper based and electronic information systems intended to evaluation the processes and outcomes of offender management, including the collation and reporting of information and data as requested.
* Communicate with and provide direction to prisoners and respond constructively to prisoner requests and complaints, relevant to offender management.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

* Knowledge of the Offender Management Framework and Community Corrections Permit Program is desirable
* Knowledge of the Offender Management Prison Pathway is desirable.


Qualifications/requirements

* Completion of the Prison Officer Pre-service Training.
* Certificate III in Correctional Practice (Custodial) or similar is desirable.
* Knowledge of Offender Management Framework desirable.
