Cabler & Telecommunications Technician
Gigawave Communications – West Gippsland
Gigawave Communications is a locally owned and operated internet and IT services provider based in West Gippsland. We design, build and support high-performance fibre, fixed wireless and business networks across the region. Our reputation is built on quality workmanship, reliability, and genuine local support — and we’re looking for a Cabler & Technician to join our growing team.
About the Role
This is a hands-on, field-based role working across active work sites, residential properties, commercial buildings and rural locations. You’ll assist with fibre builds, structured cabling, wireless services and general telecommunications work while regularly interacting with customers on site.
While networking knowledge is useful, this role is not purely IT-focused. We’re primarily looking for someone who takes pride in cabling, installations and site work, and who can represent Gigawave professionally when dealing with customers.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Data cabling (Cat6/Cat6A), termination, testing and labelling
* Working on fibre builds and fibre infrastructure
* Fibre termination and testing (experience advantageous)
* Rack installs, patch panels and basic equipment installs
* Assisting with fibre, fixed wireless and Starlink installations
* Working on construction sites and live environments
* Installing WiFi equipment, cameras and related hardware
* Communicating with customers on site and explaining works where required
* Completing job photos, notes and documentation for all jobs
What We’re Looking For
* Registered Cabler (Open or Restricted – essential)
* White Card (Construction Induction – essential)
* Experience working on work sites and construction environments
* Customer service or customer-facing experience (beneficial)
* Strong attention to detail and pride in neat, compliant installs
* Comfortable working at heights and outdoors when required
* Good communication and professionalism with customers and team members
* Ability to work independently and manage your time
* Current driver’s licence
Highly Regarded (But Not Essential)
* Fibre termination and testing experience
* Networking knowledge (switches, routers, WiFi)
* Ubiquiti equipment experience
* Starlink installations
* CCTV systems (Hikvision, Dahua, Reolink or similar)
You do not need in-depth networking knowledge to apply — however, any networking experience or willingness to learn is an advantage.

Location
Based in West Gippsland, servicing Warragul, Drouin, Trafalgar, Moe, Traralgon and surrounding areas. However, we do travel all around Metro Melbourne and other Gippsland locations.
