We are seeking a skilled and motivated Paediatric Clinical Respiratory Scientist to join the Paediatric Respiratory Laboratory at the Newcastle Infant and Child Lung Function Centre. This role offers the opportunity to work in a specialised paediatric setting, delivering high-quality pulmonary function testing for infants and children across inpatient and outpatient services.

About the Service
The Newcastle Infant and Child Lung Function Centre provides comprehensive pulmonary function testing and associated services to paediatric patients. The laboratory is located within Paediatric Ambulatory Care Services (Paediatric Outpatients) on Level 2 of the campus and operates Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 5:00pm.
Clinical testing is conducted between 8:30am and 4:30pm, with daily calibration, quality control and safety checks completed each morning to ensure the highest testing standards.
About the Role
In this role, you will perform a wide range of paediatric respiratory function tests and support the day-to-day operation of the laboratory. You will work closely with medical, nursing and allied health staff, contribute to quality improvement initiatives, and assist the Scientific Director with research and development activities.
Key responsibilities include:
* Performing respiratory function testing safely, accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with recognised professional guidelines
* Communicating effectively with patients, families and hospital staff to ensure valid and reliable test results
* Managing technical and administrative duties to support efficient laboratory operations
* Maintaining laboratory records and preparing statistical and clinical reports
* Undertaking quality assurance, equipment maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure ongoing accuracy and reliability
* Adapting to evolving testing procedures, systems and technologies
* Supporting research, teaching and continuous quality improvement activities
About you
We require someone with:
1. The ability to deal clearly and effectively with patients of varying physical disabilities in obtaining accurate pulmonary function measurements.
2. The ability to adapt to the changing requirements of different testing procedures and updates to testing systems, whilst maintaining scientific accuracy and validity of test results.
