The Wilderness Society (TWS) is seeking a highly strategic, collaborative and motivated Queensland Campaigns Manager to lead our Queensland campaigns, strengthen our presence across the state, and support the delivery of our national Organisational Campaign Plan (OCP).
This is a senior campaigning role that combines advocacy, strategic leadership, political and corporate engagement, staff mentoring and community mobilisation. It's an exciting opportunity to contribute to protecting Queensland's natural icons while shaping continental-scale environmental outcomes.
About the role
As the Queensland Campaigns Manager, you will:
* Lead the development, delivery and evaluation of Queensland campaigns under the Organisational Campaign Plan (OCP)
* Represent TWS in key external forums, including political, corporate, departmental, community, media and sector engagements
* Build and maintain strategic alliances and partnerships with conservation groups, First Nations organisations, communities, and strategic stakeholders
* Lead, mentor and support the Brisbane-based campaign team to deliver high-impact outcomes
* Provide strategic, political and narrative leadership across campaign, media, research and advocacy activities
* Collaborate deeply with teams across fundraising, organising, communications and policy to ensure integrated and powerful campaigns
* Manage campaign budgets responsibly and ensure sound risk management in all campaign activities
* Champion TWS culture by participating in Campaigners Pod work, modelling values-based leadership, and fostering positive internal relationships both in the Queensland Campaigns Centre and with remote colleagues
This role is central to the effective operation of the Wilderness Society Queensland Campaign Centre and requires someone with strategic acumen, political literacy and a passion for protecting nature.
About you
You are an experienced campaigner and relationship-builder with a deep commitment to environmental protection. You bring:
* Demonstrated experience in senior campaigning roles, including strategy development, political engagement, alliance-building, media and public advocacy
* Strong literacy, written communication and public-facing skills
* High-level experience in people management and leadership, mentoring, conflict resolution and team-building
* Understanding of state and federal political environments, conservation issues and community-led environmental change
* The ability to work collaboratively across diverse internal teams and remote colleagues
* Ability to work to competing deadlines
* Experience with project management
* Experience working with First Nations communities and organisations
* Self-motivation, initiative and the capacity to manage complex responsibilities and competing priorities
Desirable:
* Corporate advocacy campaign experience
* Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, law, communications, social science, politics or similar
* Experience Board committees, consensus decision-making or non-violent direct action
* Understanding of budgets and financial management
