About the Role
We are seeking an Aboriginal Field Officer (AFO) to increase access to justice for Aboriginal people through community engagement, outreach, and Community Legal Education.
The AFO will work with Aboriginal communities in Moree and surrounding regions to ensure they understand how to access Legal Aid and receive support throughout their legal matters.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist solicitors in facilitating outreach services and community legal education sessions.
* Make connections with relevant Aboriginal community members, Elders, and service providers.
* Provide support to solicitors assisting Aboriginal clients, including communication about and coordination of matters.
* Attend courts/tribunals to support clients.
* Guide Legal Aid staff on working with Aboriginal clients and improving cultural awareness of staff in consultation with the Aboriginal Services Branch.
Requirements
* Must identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
* Hold a current Working with Children Check or be willing to obtain one before starting work.
* Have a valid Driver Licence.
* Be willing to undergo a Criminal Record Check.
* Ability to travel frequently to other locations.
