About the Role


An exciting opportunity exists for a Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist to join Icon's dynamic Medical Physics team based in the Sunshine Coast Region of Queensland. This role is based at Icon Cancer Centres Maroochydore and Noosa, providing essential support to radiotherapy practices and ensuring high standards of patient care. You will be a key member of Icon's broad network of physicists supporting Icon radiation oncology sites nationwide.

Facilities on the Sunshine Coast (Maroochydore and Noosa) feature beam-matched Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerators with Varian Identify SGRT. Treatment services include cranial and extracranial stereotactic radiotherapy (including Varian HyperArc), motion management, SGRT-based treatments, and standard techniques such as DIBH Breast and VMAT/IMRT. Icon Cancer Centres operates in a paperless environment using Aria, with additional software including Mobius 3D, RadMachine, and AutoContour. A full suite of Physics QA equipment is available on-site; national Medical Physics tasks are coordinated via online collaboration (Microsoft Teams and SharePoint).

The Medical Physicist will assist the Regional Medical Physics Manager and Group Director of Medical Physics by providing medical physics support services to Icon radiotherapy practices. Responsibilities include routine physics tasks, equipment quality assurance, patient-specific quality assurance, and treatment planning support. Occasional travel to other Icon departments across the network may be required. This is a full-time permanent role reporting to the Regional Medical Physics Manager. Responsibilities

* Provide medical physics support to radiotherapy practices across Icon centres.
* Perform routine physics tasks, equipment QA, patient-specific QA (e.g., IMRT/VMAT) and treatment planning support.
* Contribute to a key area of responsibility within the national Medical Physics group.
* Travel to other Icon departments as needed.


Essential Criteria

* Eligible for listing on the ACPSEM register of qualified medical physics specialists in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics. Accredited physicists from the UK, USA or Canada are encouraged to apply; Icon supports overseas accreditation entry progress.
* Ability to perform routine physics tasks including QA, patient-specific QA and treatment planning support (e.g., IMRT/VMAT).
* Proven ability to work independently to a high level of scientific achievement.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills in a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience in managing the implementation of specialty equipment or programs.
* Self-directed work style with excellent problem-solving skills.
* Evidence of contributing to/in-house research and development projects.


Desirable Criteria

* Experience with stereotactic treatments, preferably using Varian equipment.
* Three or more years as a qualified medical physicist in an advanced radiotherapy department.
* Experience in leading teams and managing resources.
