A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.About the OpportunityThe Software Developer is responsible for researching, designing, writing, and maintaining software applications used in the training environment. You will work in a small team responsible for the end-to-end product from building the back-end code and server structure to the front-end graphical user interface. You will contribute to logistically deploying the software and training users to operate the tools and will work with stakeholders across a matrix organisation including Instructors, Training Developers, IT Support, and Royal Australian Navy staff.You will develop and employ skills across a broad range of software, multimedia, training and IT security disciplines, including storyboarding, coding, graphic design, video, audio, 3D modelling, gamification, and any other relevant skills you can contribute. The primary environment you will be developing in is with the Unity game engine.Software Developers are expected to develop a working understanding of learning concepts and submarine subjects to help interpret training requirements and how to integrate these into technology applications.** This is a 24month fixed term contract with the potential for permanency. As this position is situated in Garden Island, WA, there is minimal to no working from home available. Furthermore, you must have a valid driver’s license as there is no public transport onto the island.ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with customer, users, team members, and other stakeholders to understand needs and determine solutions.Scoping training software needsResearching, analysing and evaluating solutionsWriting and maintaining software code, system designs and technical specifications.Testing, diagnosing, debugging applications.Continuous improvement and updates.Reporting day-to-day oversight of their development activities to the Senior Software Developer.Essential QualificationsBachelor Degree in a discipline relevant to software and multimedia development or equivalent and substantial demonstrated experience.Highly desirable skills and knowledgeExperience with the Unity game engineOther relevant certifications in software, technologies, design, training and assessment.Knowledge and understanding of adult learning principles Software and multimedia development in a training contextLearning needs analysis and adult education principlesSkill with graphic and user interface designEligibilityThis role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology.
