Position Overview

Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) and the Department of Anaesthetics are recruiting multiple Staff Specialists (Anaesthetists) for a fixed‐term, full‐time and part‐time contract until April 2028. The role requires general clinical anaesthesia competence and, where applicable, subspecialty expertise in cardiac anaesthesia.

Responsibilities

* Plan, deliver and review general and specialist anaesthetic care for trauma, paediatric, cardiothoracic, neurosurgical, vascular, obstetric, interventional cardiology, and imaging procedures.
* Participate in on‐call rosters and out‐of‐hours clinical duties as required.
* Assist in training junior staff, medical trainees, and allied health professionals.
* Engage in clinical quality improvement projects and multidisciplinary case reviews.
* Maintain professional competence through continuing professional development and, where applicable, subspecialty certifications.
* Contribute to research initiatives and clinical trials in partnership with the University of Tasmania and affiliated research centres.

Qualifications & Experience

* Registered medical practitioner with specialist registration in anaesthesia (or an International Medical Graduate on a recognised specialist pathway).
* Recent fellowship or consultant experience in cardiac anaesthesia for cardiac subspecialty applicants.
* Ability to perform and interpret intra‐operative trans‐oesophageal echocardiography (completion or near‐completion of an appropriate training programme).
* Experience in obstetric, neurosurgical and paediatric anaesthesia within the last 12 months.
* Clinical exposure at a tertiary hospital standard within the last 12 months.
* Recognition as an anaesthetist by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, holding FANZCA or equivalent.

Remuneration & Benefits

* Salary: Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 – 11, ranging from AU$222,789 to AU$305,539 per annum (pro rata), with incremental salary increases based on experience and seniority.
* Allowances include motor vehicle provision or allowance (subject to full‐time hours), Continuing Professional Development allowance (AU$17,483 pro‐rata), on‐call allowance, and other Award provisions.

Appointment Details

* Fixed‐term, full‐time and part‐time day work with on‐call duties, up to 76 hours per fortnight.
* Contract length: commencement is flexible until the end of April 2028.
* Period of application: used to fill similar vacancies within a twelve‐month window from publication date.
