Applicants suitable for the role but not offered the position for the current vacancy may be placed in a merit list or pool. If the applicant agrees, the results may be shared with other Australian Public Service (APS) agencies to fill similar roles. Applicants may be offered future roles without reapplying. Who we are
The Cyber Security and Desktop Services Branch supports staff within the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry with ICT needs and manages the department’s cyber security. Our service desks and VIP support teams assist with ICT equipment requests, incidents, telephone, and conference services across all areas of the department. We also provide ICT support to regional and remote offices across Australia. We advise on cyber security and assist business areas in conducting their work safely and securely.
The Cyber Security section proactively prevents, detects, and manages incidents, runs cyber systems, and provides advice to stakeholders, including:
Cyber threat prevention, detection, and audit.
Cyber incident response, investigation, and reporting.
Solution advice and policy exceptions.
Management of security technology products.
Monitoring and incident handling capabilities.
The key duties of the position include:
Provide accurate and specialised advice, including anticipating problems and contributing to issues management.
Contribute to the development of team objectives for short-term tasks and strategic planning for longer-term initiatives.
Work independently, following broad directions, to deliver quality outcomes.
Manage complex customer relationships and expectations with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Develop and deliver specialist cyber services and advice.
Manage IT service request and approval queues for cyber security services.
Implement work plans, set tasks and priorities, manage workflow, and allocate resources.
Identify metrics to assess performance and measure service impacts.
Coordinate contract management, including developing tender documentation, managing selection processes, and addressing contractor performance issues.
Build team capability through coaching, performance feedback, conflict resolution, and encouraging career development.
Manage recruitment and staffing processes, including preparing selection reports.
