Primary objective
Responsible for ensuring that the school and its facilities, including classrooms, bathrooms, and offices, are clean and safe
for students and staff. Appropriate cleaning processes of mopping, vacuuming and chemical handling and other tasks will be
undertaken daily to ensure optimum results
Context statement
Jabiru is a community transitioning from a traditional base as a mining community. It is transforming into an Indigenous led
tourism and local government centre. Jabiru is located approximately 250 km east of Darwin in West Arnhem Land. The
school caters for students from birth to senior secondary. Current enrolment is 160, with what is increasingly a
predominantly Indigenous EaLD learner student cohort. The school has a strategic focus on improving student wellbeing and
engagement, building strong community/school partnerships, and creating strong employment outcomes and opportunities
for school leavers.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake both internal and external cleaning duties. Internal cleaning includes the maintenance of carpets and hard
floor surfaces, cleaning of furniture and fittings, windows, toilets and dusting. External duties include rubbish removal,
cleaning of drinking troughs, external windows, verandas and covered areas and cobweb removal.
1. Undertake vacation cleaning which includes stripping and sealing of vinyl floors, carpet shampooing, pressure cleaning of
undercover areas and verandas, and other such duties as directed by the Principal and Business Manager.
1. Ensure that cleaning equipment, materials and chemicals are well maintained and compliant with safe cleaning
procedures.
1. Working autonomously with little supervision and commitment to safe work practices.

Essential
1. Ability to undertake both internal and external cleaning duties.
2. Must have knowledge of use of equipment, materials and chemicals in accordance with safe cleaning procedures
3. Ideally have good attention to detail and able to work well with others to ensure a clean and safe school environment
4. Demonstrated experience in Cleaning
5. Current Working with Children clearance,
Desirable
1. Current NT Driver's licence
