Position Overview
Support Workers at Shine Bright Mental Health provide trauma-informed, person-centred support to individuals living with complex mental health presentations, dual diagnosis, psychosocial disability, or developmental disability.
The role focuses on empowering clients to live independently, engage safely in their community, and build capacity toward their NDIS goals.
This is a frontline, client-focused role that requires emotional resilience, strong boundaries, and the ability to stay calm and supportive in challenging situations. Clinical support and supervision are available at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Client Support
* Provide safe, respectful, and person-centred daily living support.
* Support participants with complex mental health needs including schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, PTSD, personality disorders, and AOD-related concerns.
* Facilitate community participation — appointments, social outings, shopping, activities, skills building.
* Promote independence, dignity, and meaningful engagement.
Safety & Crisis Response
* Use trauma-informed de-escalation strategies confidently and appropriately.
* Maintain calm, professional responses in crisis or distress situations.
* Escalate risks to the Director or Team Leader in accordance with organisational procedures.
Communication & Documentation
* Document all notes accurately in ShiftCare in alignment with NDIS reporting requirements.
* Communicate professionally with clients, families, clinicians, and partner services.
* Contribute to collaborative care planning with the Shine Bright mental health nursing team.
Professionalism & Boundaries
* Maintain strict professional boundaries at all times.
* Uphold Shine Bright's values, code of conduct, and trauma-informed practice framework.
* Respect confidentiality, privacy, and client autonomy.
Training & Development
* Attend mandatory training including First Aid/CPR, MAYBO, infection control, and worker orientation.
* Participate in regular reflective supervision and team debriefs.
* Engage in professional development to build mental health competence.
Required Skills & Attributes
* Minimum 2–3 years experience in disability, mental health, or community support.
* Strong understanding of mental health conditions and dual diagnosis.
* Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to manage challenging behaviour safely and respectfully.
* Confidence in de-escalation and crisis response.
* Reliable, compassionate, ethical, and resilient.
* Ability to work both autonomously and within a team environment.
* High level of professionalism and self-awareness.
Qualifications & Clearances
Essential
* Certificate III in Disability Support or equivalent.
* First Aid & CPR (current).
* NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.
* National Police Check (within 12 months).
* Valid driver's licence.
* Completion of MAYBO modules:
* Positive Approaches to Behaviour & Safer De-escalation
* Promoting Human Rights & Reducing Restrictive Practices
* Safer Lone Working
Desirable
* Certificate IV in Mental Health.
* AOD training or lived experience supporting people with complex mental health needs.
* Trauma-informed practice training.
Employment Conditions
* Casual employment under SCHADS Level 3.
* Casual loading included in hourly rate.
