Primary objective
Provide high-level advice to internal and external senior stakeholders on major government priorities, projects and reforms,
undertake quality analysis of a range of complex issues affecting the Territory including from economic, commercial and regulatory
reform perspectives, prepare complex reports and lead the implementation of policy.

Context statement
As an Assistant Director in the Economic Policy team, you will have a lead role in providing strategic advice and driving priority
reform projects across economic, commercial and regulatory policy areas. You will lead engagement across the team and
government agencies to analyse policy challenges, provide advice on major government priorities, projects and reforms, build a
case for change, and, in some cases, lead implementation. Critical thinking, the ability to absorb information quickly and provide
succinct and accurate advice are key to success in this role. As an Assistant Director, you will play a central role in managing
projects, influencing high-level decision-making, and providing strategic direction and support to other team members.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead and manage detailed analysis and evaluation of policies and issues affecting the Territory from economic, regulatory and

commercial, perspectives.
2. Oversee and guide the development of relevant policy, briefings and research papers.
3. Prepare and review high-level documentation including Ministerial briefings, policy advice, reports and discussion papers.
4. Represent and advocate the interests of Treasury and the Territory in meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
5. Manage and mentor a team of analysts, including setting direction and providing guidance and professional development.
6. Cultivate and maintain effective and collaborative relationships across Treasury and other Government agencies to achieve

outcomes.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Extensive knowledge of contemporary economic policy, regulatory and/or commercial frameworks and processes.
2. Proven ability to provide high quality evidence-based analysis and advice on economic, regulatory, commercial and/or

commercial contract matters.
3. Outstanding written and oral communication skills and with extensive experience in preparing briefings on complex matters to

a high standard.
4. Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks while working collaboratively with a

range of stakeholders.
5. Proven ability to lead the development and implementation of economic and/or commercial strategies and policy and develop

innovative solutions to complex problems.
6. Proven interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a senior member of a high-performing team, lead and manage small teams

to deliver key priorities and develop staff capability.
7. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.

Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in economics, public policy, commerce, finance, law or a related discipline.
