Job Title: Sports Camp Coordinator
About I Challenge Diabetes (ICD)
We are a charity that focuses on delivering engaging, inspiring, and empowering opportunities to individuals with type 1 diabetes. We strive to build the skills and courage needed to face challenges in managing the disease.
The Coordinator will primarily work on our sports camps, focusing on youth with type one diabetes. These camps enable participants to learn more about their health and management strategies while practicing with knowledgeable mentors.
* The Coordinator will coordinate team members, participants, equipment, and signage with clear communication and leadership.
* The Coordinator will plan and lead camp-wide activities, cover counsellor breaks, and set the culture and tone of the camp for all staff and campers.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for the general safety of campers and specific diabetes management, including oversight of blood sugar logs and facilitating discussions around diabetes management. They will encourage participation, growth, and skill development among campers, embodying ICD's Core Values: Respect, Compassion, and Empowerment.
Responsibilities
1. Works directly with the ICD team to prioritize initiatives and target regions.
2. Develops program details, timelines, and planning for on-site logistics.
3. Develops gear requirements, equipment lists, and activity schedules.
Requirements
* Current Post Secondary Student or recent graduate.
* In-depth understanding of type 1 diabetes, including managing the disease, best practices, problem-solving, and stigmas/psycho-social challenges of T1D.
Preferred Qualifications
* Strong project- and risk-management skills.
* Ability to work as a member of a team and supervise/facilitate diabetes management tasks.
Working Conditions
Camp programming runs from 9am-4pm. Work hours are 8:30am-4:30pm. Outside of regular programming, you will participate in team meetings or additional training as needed.
Benefits
Flights required for our Western based team will be covered by ICD. Shared accommodations will be provided as needed at each camp location. Transportation to and from the airport to shared accommodations will be covered, excluding the team members' hometown.
