About You
1. Hospitality & Service Training (Preferred but Not Required)
* Certificate or Diploma in Hospitality or Restaurant Service from institutions such as: TAFE NSW – Certificate III or IV in Hospitality, Le Cordon Bleu, William Blue College, or equivalent hospitality programs.
* Industry‑specific short courses in table service, customer engagement, or fine dining etiquette are advantageous.
2. Wine & Beverage Knowledge (Highly Valued)
* WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) Level 1 or 2 in Wines (preferred for understanding wine service and pairings).
* Basic knowledge of wine varieties, tasting notes, and food pairings is beneficial.
* Additional training in beer, spirits, or barista skills can be an advantage for service versatility.
3. Compliance & Safety Certifications
* Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Certification – Mandatory
* Food Handlers Certificate – Mandatory
Position Summary
As a Section Waiter at Saint Peter, Paddington, you will be responsible for delivering attentive, professional, and responsive service to ensure an exceptional dining experience that encourages guest loyalty. You will play a key role in making guests feel welcome and valued, catering to their needs with precision, professionalism, and care. This role requires a dedicated hospitality professional who is passionate about customer service, fine dining etiquette, and providing genuine hospitality. Key Requirements
Hospitality & Service Experience
* 1‑2 years of experience as a waiter in a fine dining, high‑end, or fast‑paced hospitality venue.
* Proven history of customer service excellence, ensuring a high level of guest satisfaction.
* Experience in table service, order‑taking, and handling food and beverages with care and precision.
Preferred Additional Experience
* Experience in fine dining, luxury hotels, or hatted/Michelin‑starred restaurants.
* Knowledge of basic wine service and food pairing.
* Background in barista skills or cocktail service is an advantage.
Job Responsibility
1. Guest Service & Experience
* Greet guests warmly upon arrival and make them feel welcome and comfortable.
* Provide polite, attentive, and professional service throughout the dining experience.
* Take the time to engage with guests, anticipating their needs and providing a personalised experience.
* Check in with guests at appropriate moments to ensure satisfaction and address any concerns promptly.
* Handle guest requests and complaints professionally, escalating issues to management when necessary.
2. Menu Knowledge & Order Taking
* Learn and maintain a strong knowledge of the menu, including ingredients, allergens, and preparation methods.
* Accurately describe dishes, making recommendations based on guest preferences.
* Take accurate food and beverage orders, confirming details with guests to avoid mistakes.
* Provide guidance on wine pairings and beverage selections, working closely with the sommelier team.
3. Food & Beverage Delivery
* Serve food and beverages in a timely and professional manner, ensuring correct order delivery.
* Follow correct service etiquette, including pouring beverages and presenting dishes properly.
* Monitor tables for any additional needs, such as refilling drinks or offering additional items.
* Assist in the coordination of timing between courses, communicating with the kitchen and front‑of‑house team.
4. Table Maintenance & Cleanliness
* Keep the dining area clean and well‑maintained throughout service.
* Clear dirty dishes, glassware, and utensils efficiently and discreetly.
* Reset tables quickly and neatly for the next guests.
* Ensure all service areas are clean, stocked, and organised at all times.
5. Team Collaboration & Communication
* Work cohesively with fellow servers, kitchen staff, and managers to ensure smooth service flow.
* Assist teammates in their sections when needed to maintain a high level of service.
* Communicate any guest allergies or dietary requests clearly with the kitchen team.
* Keep management informed of any customer feedback, issues, or special requests.
6. Professionalism & Work Ethic
* Maintain high personal presentation standards, including uniform and grooming.
* Stay calm and composed under pressure, delivering outstanding service even in busy periods.
* Show initiative and a proactive approach, taking responsibility for guest satisfaction.
* Continuously improve service knowledge, attending staff training sessions as required.
