Our site and historic carriages require ongoing general maintenance and repairs to ensure safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal for our thousands of visitors and dedicated volunteers.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a versatile and practical Handyperson to join our team. This is a hands‑on role where your general maintenance and repair skills will be invaluable across various aspects of the Don River Railway. You will assist with tasks related to our historic carriages and general site infrastructure, contributing directly to the upkeep and presentation of our unique heritage attraction. If you enjoy practical work, problem‑solving, and making a tangible difference, this is a highly rewarding opportunity.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
* Perform general maintenance and repair tasks on railway carriages, buildings, and other site infrastructure (e.g., minor carpentry, basic plumbing, simple electrical fixes, painting touch‑ups).
* Assist with minor construction projects or improvements around the site.
* Identify and report maintenance issues requiring more specialised attention.
* Utilise a range of common hand and power tools safely and effectively.
* Collaborate with other volunteers, including carpenters, painters, and grounds staff.
* Adhere strictly to all DRR safety procedures and site guidelines, including proper use of PPE.
* Contribute to a positive and collaborative working environment.
