* Coordinating WHS audits, inspections and corrective actions
* Leading WHS incident and near miss investigations
* Drafting, reviewing and updating WHS policies and guidance material
* Delivering WHS inductions and supporting training activities
* Providing practical WHS advice to managers and staff
* Coordinating WHS committee meetings, including agendas, minutes and quorum management
* Analysing WHS data and preparing reports for executive review
* Supporting WHS initiatives such as ergonomic assessments, mental health programs, flu vaccination roll‑outs and first aid networks
What you'll need to succeed
* Sound knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and associated codes of practice
* Experience working in a WHS advisory role, ideally within the APS or a large, complex organisation
* Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
* High attention to detail with strong organisational and reporting capability
* The ability to manage competing priorities and contribute to WHS projects and initiatives
High‑performing APS5 candidates with WHS experience who have acted at APS6 level previously are also encouraged to apply.
This role is only open to Australian citizens, and you must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Federal Government Security Clearance (Baseline minimum; NV1 preferred). The agency is willing to sponsor NV1 clearance for suitable candidates who currently hold Baseline.
What you'll get in return
* 12‑month s26 transfer at APS6 level, with the potential for extension
* Supportive and professional team environment.
* Flexible working arrangements, with most staff working two days per week in the office, and additional flexibility considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
* You will have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to workforce safety, wellbeing and culture within a Federal Government setting.
