Summary: Performs both administrative and clinical functions to support smooth and efficient clinical service or practice operations under general supervision. Performs basic clerical work and routine tasks. Administrative duties include scheduling, check-in, check-out, and other patient visit-related activities.
Essential Functions Perform routine administrative and clerical duties related to a clinical service or physician practice office. Make patient appointments and maintain appointment records. Greet and assist patients. Answer telephones, assist callers with routine inquiries, and schedule appointments. File materials in patient folders and print appointment schedules. Process patient billing forms and scan documents to patient medical records. Call for patient medical records and laboratory test results. Open and distribute unit mail or faxes. Type forms, records, schedules, memos, etc., as directed. Accept co-payments as required. Handle, screen, and/or take messages related to prior authorizations, provider questions, prescription refills, and test results. Act as "Super User" for scheduling, registration, and billing systems, providing assistance and training to others. Perform more complex functions such as surgical scheduling or schedule changes at advanced competency levels. Education High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
Experience Office experience of 2-3 years required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficiency with Office Suite and understanding of office operations, including filing, copying, scanning, printing, and faxing. Ability to manage phone systems and handle non-routine calls and issues. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to understand and compose work-related documents clearly and accurately. Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently. The Labor and Delivery PSC II serves as a central information source on the inpatient Labor and Delivery Unit, interacting with patients, families, visitors, and staff. The environment is fast-paced, requiring multitasking and calmness in emergency situations. Responsibilities include registration, admission/discharge coordination, visitor screening, and providing support to OB staff. The role also involves performing full registration functions and insurance verification.
