PRIMARY DETAIL • Annual base $86,087 (HEW 5.1), plus 17% employer's superannuation contribution and annual leave loading. • Full-time, two year fixed term contract • Supportive team and hybrid working environment About the Role Australian Astronomical Optics - Macquarie (AAO-MQ) is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Electronics Technician to provide specialist technical support for the delivery of instrumentation projects and the operational running of the laboratories. The electronics technician will work in a small group comprising electronics engineers and electronics technicians. Reporting to and under the guidance of the Electronics Group Manager, some your responsibilities will include: Schematic entry of digital and analogue circuits using CAD based tools. Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout of digital and analogue circuits using CAD based tools. Mechanical design (using mechanical CAD tools), manufacture and construction of mechanical mounting hardware, enclosures and front panels for printed circuit board assemblies. Assembly of PCBs using Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and through hole IC component technology. Construction of cable assemblies, including termination of cables with a variety of connector technologies. Test and debug of circuit and cable assemblies. Assist with instrument assembly, installation, testing and commissioning at telescope sites in Australian and potentially overseas. Debug faulty electronics equipment to component level, using laboratory test equipment – including oscilloscopes and multi-meters. Development of small prototype and test circuits (including design and construction). Procurement of electronics components and materials. Wiring of equipment cabinets and chassis. Field wiring of electro-mechanical assemblies. Maintenance of CAD system symbol and component libraries. Maintenance of purchase order database. Procurement of laboratory test equipment and tools. Maintenance of laboratory component and equipment storerooms and chemicals. Documentation of test results, methods and procedures. Contribute to project planning and delivery through the project life cycle including ensuring that scheduling, design, testing or production issues are raised. Contribute to the safe use of all tools and systems, and personnel in the AAO Workshop (and on remote sites) including WHS matters and development of appropriate procedures. The AAO is also at the forefront of astronomical research and the provision of virtual laboratory data visualisation and data management services About You You will have completed formal electronics and/or communications technical training at a TAFE or similar institution, and you will have several years of experience working in similar fields of instrumentation or industrial control electronics. You will have a high level of electronics competence and a passion for producing quality results in a timely manner. You will have great communication skills, are able to build sound working relationships, can self-manage and bring a positive attitude to work. Your technical expertise, analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders will enable you to succeed.
