The Business Editor leads the publishing program for the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA) in AU, and the Institute of Financial Accountants (IFA) in the UK.

In this role, these five things matter most:

* You’re a big-picture thinker. You know how to take a client’s strategic objectives and turn them into an actionable plan that gets results. You’re not afraid to suggest new ways of thinking or doing to achieve those objectives.
* You know business and finance. You are familiar with finance, economics, management, and related areas such as small business and entrepreneurship, and can spot an interesting story. You know how to tell this story in an engaging and intelligent way, driving engagement with IPA’s and IFA’s target audiences.
* You don’t just think in words. While the majority of stories are written articles, you can also hatch creative ideas for visual executions.
* You know what excellence looks like. You are a sharp judge of quality – of ideas, of content, of plans. You are able to zoom in on the detail when necessary to ensure all the work we do is of a relentlessly high standard.
* You create great relationships that build business. You know what fabulous client service looks like and how to understand the world from your client’s perspective. You build trust, earn respect and engender confidence with our clients by being able to skilfully anticipate their needs and execute our plans.

Main duties and responsibilities

Working closely with Mahlab's Publishing Director, Editorial Director and the broader team, the Business Editor’s key responsibilities include:

* Leading the overall execution of the publishing programs with your clients, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery
* Fostering a deep understanding of your clients’ organisations and the industries in which they operate, translating strategic objectives into engaging and intelligent stories
* Building and strengthening relationships with a broad cross-section of senior stakeholders within our client’s organisations, as well as with key industry stakeholders
* Ensuring thorough and efficient integration between all channels. This includes ultimate control of all storyboards and content calendars
* Planning, creating and commissioning content, working alongside internal and external contributors and creators
* Leveraging AI tools to improve efficiency and effectiveness
* Analysing performance metrics to better understand audience and refine content planning
* Conducting final quality control checks on all content
* Managing freelance and third-party budgets
* Continually sourcing and testing new freelancers and suppliers, particularly those skilled in content formats such as video, made-for-social, data and interactive journalism
* Constantly updating your knowledge of the digital landscape (including content formats, channels, distribution strategies, content marketing automation, platforms, and emerging technologies) and determining what value they can offer to our work

Skills and qualifications

* Minimum 8-10 years experience in a content creation role
* Experience in business journalism required
* Demonstrated understanding of the ANZ business landscape, industries and trends, which includes familiarity with finance, economics, management, and relevant areas such as small business and entrepreneurship, and labour markets
* Understanding of the UK business landscape would be an advantage
* Interest and ability for deep immersion into new subject matters
* Strong editorial and content ideation skills
* Excellent communication, writing, facilitation and presentation skills
* Ability to judge/assess ideas in line with strategic goals and identify gaps in strategy and deliverables
* Ability to work collaboratively and coordinate with multiple teams and departments
* Ability to assess freelance contributors for suitability

What’s in it for you?

* The chance to work with a talented, motivated team in an award-winning agency environment.
