About the role
ABBA Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Fitter- Leading Hand to join our Pinjarra Workshop team.
This is a hands-on, senior-level workshop role for experienced Mechanical Fitters who take pride in producing high-quality mechanical work, having a hands-on leadership approach, and contributing to process development in a structured, safety-driven environment.
You will work closely with our Production Supervisor, Mechanical Fitters and Mechanical Assemblers to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and to specification.
This is not an entry-level role — the successful candidates will be instrumental in building the processes and workflows that our Mechanical Fitters will follow and growing into workshop technical leaders.
What You Will Be Doing
On a typical day, you will be:
* Lead and carry out mechanical rebuilds and assemblies (pumps/rotating equipment)
* Perform hands‑on stripping, assessing, rebuilding, fit‑up and testing work
* Develop, document, and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for mechanical assembly and rebuild activities
* Conduct and oversee quality assurance (QA) checks on all mechanical builds and assemblies
* Support troubleshooting, fault finding, and rectification during assembly and testing phases
* Support mechanical testing and commissioning activities, ensuring equipment meets performance requirements
You will also:
* Mentor and train junior fitters on mechanical rebuild processes
* Work closely with the mechanical and fabrication teams to keep workflow moving
We are looking for someone who is hands-on, independent, and solutions-focused, with the ability to work in a developing environment and help build scalable workshop processes.
What We Are Looking For
Mandatory Requirements:
* Trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter, Fitter & Turner, or Diesel Mechanic
* Current C Class Driver’s Licence
* High Risk Licences – Forklift
Desirable:
* LR/MR Licence
* Overhead Gantry Ticket
* Post-trade certifications or additional technical training
Experience
* Minimum 5 years’ workshop experience as a Mechanical Fitter or Diesel Mechanic
* Previous Leading Hand/Senior Fitter experience
* Experience with 12/24V fit outs and wiring harness assembly
* Experience in mechanical fitting, rebuilds, and assembly, ideally within pumps, rotating equipment, or similar heavy industry
* Ability to read engineering drawings and BOMs
* Sound knowledge of fits, tolerances, alignment and QA requirements
