Role
The Koorie Educator, Katjeri Yarrka, will work within operational guidelines for Koorie Educators and provide cultural support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at Greater Shepparton Secondary College, contributing to their educational outcomes.
This 48/52 position requires attendance from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm on Tuesday and Thursday. The position does not require attendance during school holidays.
Responsibilities
* Provide a culturally safe, calm and supportive environment for students and staff within the Katjeri Yarrka space.
* Coordinate the day‐to‐day operation of Katjeri Yarrka.
* Coordinate the referral process to Katjeri Yarrka.
* Coordinate timetabling of KE staff and additional supports as required.
* Facilitate culturally inclusive activities and provide opportunities for cultural and educational engagement.
* Support student wellbeing, engagement and successful re‐entry back into the classroom.
* Oversee ordering, stocktake and management of programme resources and supplies.
* Facilitate short‐term intervention and restorative support processes for students requiring additional support.
* Support students to complete classwork, CATs and assessment tasks; participate in restorative conversations and reflection activities; develop positive learning routines and classroom readiness.
* Work collaboratively with NH/KE staff regarding referrals, student supports and programme implementation.
* Support students involved in SSGs, post‐incident restorative processes, post‐suspension re‐engagement and transition support following disengagement or return from Nurtja.
* Monitor student attendance and usage of the programme to ensure it does not become a long‐term replacement for classroom participation.
* Manage session capacity and student numbers, with a maximum of 10 students per session, subject to coordinator discretion.
* Maintain accurate Compass Chronicle documentation and attendance records for all students accessing the programme.
Selection Criteria
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff and external parties.
* Willingness to be fully involved in the school community and the ability to develop and initiate programmes to support Koorie students.
* Ability to liaise with students, families and key stakeholders and develop strong working relationships.
* Ability to work with key staff in the development of culturally specific programmes and activities.
